I believe I’ve tried every painful, labor-intensive method for making homemade ice cream there is.
I played around with a ball that you dump your ingredients into and roll about in until you give up and drink the batter. I tested a crank churner, which is mostly for those who want a second serving of “arm day.” I’ve even tried using a stand mixer attachment that demands a lot of freezer space.
None of these solutions compare to the Cuisinart ICE-100 Ice Cream and Gelato Maker in terms of speed and ease of use.
Cuisinart, established in Connecticut, has been producing cookware, ovenware, culinary tools, and kitchen accessories for than half a century. I tried out the company’s top-of-the-line ice cream machine and was blown away by its variety and ease of use.
Specifications and design
Because the Cuisinart ICE-100 incorporates a compressor, the mixing bowl, paddle, and other parts do not need to be frozen before use. You may easily switch between ice cream and gelato using two kneading paddles. To get you started, the unit includes a recipe book with dozens of ice cream, gelato, sorbet, frozen yogurt, and other dishes.
With measurements of 16.7 inches deep by 12 inches wide and 9.3 inches high, it’s tiny enough to fit under your cabinets on your counter. For a pleasant, clean appearance, the housing is composed of stainless steel. A mix-in aperture in the glass lid that covers the mixing bowl allows you to add ingredients without halting the churning.
A touchpad with a blue LCD is used to operate the appliance. It’s really basic, with only a clock, an on/off button, and a start/stop button.

The procedure for setting up
The ice cream maker was easy to set up. I washed the mixing bowl, paddle, and lid with soap and warm water after removing all of the packaging. It just took a few minutes to complete this task.
The mixing bowl was then placed in the machine. The bowl must be perfectly positioned for the system to work properly. This is a little difficult at first, but it becomes easier with practice. The top must also be locked in place in order to use the ice cream machine.
The Cuisinart ICE-100, like any other compressor-powered device, must be left upright for at least 24 hours before use. I wasn’t sure if it would stay upright throughout shipping, so I waited 24 hours to be safe.
All of the recipes recommend chilling your batter for at least two hours and preferably overnight, regardless of what you’re creating. This is a standard procedure for any ice cream maker. It’s supposed to help the batter “age” and lower the temperature so the ice cream maker can work faster. However, if you’re in a hurry, you could skip the refrigeration step.

I let my 5-year-old sous chef choose the recipe for my first batch. He requested ice cream with s’mores. So, following the ice cream maker’s instructions, I produced a chocolate ice cream batter and chilled it overnight. The next day, I poured the batter into the mixing bowl with the ice cream paddle. After that, I turned on the machine.
Before adding the marshmallow cream, the instructions stated that the maker should be run for 40 to 50 minutes. As a result, I set an alarm on my phone and focused on other tasks. “It stopped!” exclaimed my sous chef after 30 minutes. The ice cream was too thick to continue churning. I couldn’t get the marshmallow cream, graham cracker, and chocolate to blend together. Fortunately, my adolescent was never a fan of s’mores ice cream and preferred plain chocolate instead. My kindergartener was also pleased with the topping of mixed-in foods.
We’re a big ice cream family, so we mostly use the machine to create ice cream, however we did dabble in gelato with great results. Vanilla, chocolate, and fresh strawberry ice cream are among our favorites. My adolescent son and wife both agree that the chocolate is the best they’ve ever tasted. Fresh strawberries are my favorite. The vanilla gelato was a major success as well.
The ice cream from the Cuisinart ICE-100 isn’t as firm as you’d expect from items direct from the freezer, but the soft consistency is still delicious — and my family prefers it that way. Put the completed mix in a food storage container and freeze it for two or more hours if you want rock-hard ice cream.
It was a breeze to clean the components. The paddles and cover are dishwasher safe, however I found that hand washing them was sufficient. With a few swipes of a sponge and a little soapy water, the mixing bowl is also easily cleaned.
Cons to think about
Despite the fact that the ice cream machine is simple to clean, I had a habit of making messes. When I first started making ice cream, I used a mixing bowl to combine and chill the batter. However, pouring this into the Cuisinart without splashing and dripping all over proved tough. So, in a plastic pitcher, I began mixing the batter. This worked out beautifully, and the spout made pouring more exact.
I don’t like that I can’t simply turn on the ice cream machine and wait for it to finish. You should check it on a regular basis to see if it’s close to completion. I had one event where the ice cream overflowed and spilled all over my counter.
Scraping the ice cream out of the mixing dish using metal objects is not recommended. When I tried to use a metal spoon, I observed some faint scratching on the bowl. This task was easier to complete with a plastic kitchen scraper.

I’ve found that the Cuisinart ICE-100 is the best. You don’t have to remember to put any of the ingredients in the freezer before using them. The ice cream is ready in approximately 40 minutes after you pour the batter in and touch a few buttons. It’s also adaptable enough to handle a wide variety of frozen delights.
Because the Cuisinart ICE-100 is so pricey, I’d only recommend it to diehard ice cream, gelato, frozen yogurt, or sorbet fans. It may help you save money on desserts in the long run. However, this device is unique in that it lets you to let your imagination go wild while creating nutritious, high-quality concoctions with no effort.
