The Latitude 5430 Rugged and the Latitude 7330 Rugged Extreme are two new rugged laptops from Dell that were launched today. The 14-inch Latitude 5340 Rugged laptop and the 13-inch Latitude 7330 Rugged Extreme laptop are both available. Beginning December 9, 2021, both laptops will be available. At this time, Dell has not made any pricing announcements. Both appear to be competitive with Panasonic’s finest tough laptops.
Dell’s tough devices were in desperate need of an upgrade. Dell’s ruggedized Latitude hardware previously used 8th Generation Intel processors. The Latitude 5430 Rugged and Latitude 7330 Rugged Extreme are significantly more modern. They’re powered by Intel Core 11th Gen processors with optional vPro.
Integrated Intel Iris Xe graphics are available on all of the laptops. They also support Wi-Fi 6E and feature 5G connectivity as an option, which Panasonic does not provide in competing devices. Windows 11 is preinstalled on both laptops.
The Latitude 5430 Rugged has been drop-tested up to three feet and is dust, mud, and water resistant to IP53 standards. It is slightly lighter than the Panasonic Toughbook 55 MK2 at 4.35 lbs (1.97 kg). It has a battery life of up to 25 hours, though this depends on the connectivity you choose and how bright you keep the display. Its screen has a brightness of up to 1100 nits and may be used with gloves.
A 13-inch display with an optional 1400-nit direct-sunlight readable screen comes standard on the Latitude 7330 Rugged Extreme. That screen also has the capability of supporting multi-touch via gloves. The Latitude 7330 Rugged Extreme has been drop tested up to six feet and is dust, grime, and water resistant to IP65 standards.
Dell’s tough Latitude series has been updated, which could help it compete with Panasonic. The laptops compete with the Panasonic Toughbook 55 MK2, although those looking for a robust computer may also consider the Panasonic Toughbook 33 or Panasonic Toughbook G2.
