Apple has offered no indication that a new version of the Pro Display XDR, which was released in 2019, is in the works. Rumors, on the other hand, say that Apple is working on new external displays. 9to5Mac has learned from individuals close to the situation that Apple is working on a new “Apple Studio Display” that will have a greater resolution than the Pro Display XDR.
Details about the Apple Studio Display
While it’s unclear whether the new Apple Studio Display is a replacement for the Pro Display XDR or a new choice in the lineup with unique capabilities, sources close to the situation tell 9to5Mac that it has a 7K resolution.
Pro Display XDR, on the other hand, features a 32-inch 6K (6016 x 3384) display with 218 pixels per inch. The new Apple Studio Display could have a higher pixel density of 245 PPI, or it could have the same 218 PPI as the Pro Display XDR but on a larger 36-inch panel.
In July 2021, 9to5Mac reported that Apple was testing a new external display with a built-in A13 chip codenamed “J327.” According to our sources, the Apple Studio Display is the same J327 model, indicating that Apple is still working on a specific Apple Silicon chip for an external display.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple plans to release three new Macs in 2022, as well as a new external display that is half the price of the Pro Display XDR and is aimed at normal people. Apple’s “Cinema Display” series was previously available in several sizes, so it wouldn’t be surprising if the company gave two or more display options to its consumers once again.
The new Apple Studio Display’s release date is unknown, but the company is expected to hold a special event on March 8 to unveil new Macs.
