Facebook said in a blog post that “it’s going to get simpler” if you’ve had trouble dividing up group dinners, shared household bills, or even the monthly rent. “If you’ve struggled with dividing up (and getting paid back for) group dinners,” Facebook adds, “it’s about to get easier.” You can easily solicit financial support from your loved ones by sending a message to them through Messenger.
According to the firm, the Split Payments function, which will be released for the first time in the United States the next week, may be accessible through the Payments Hub or by clicking a “Get Started” button within a group conversation. This feature will make its debut in the US the following week. (The business has not said whether or when the feature is planned to become available to users located in other countries.)
“From there, you can split a bill evenly or alter the contribution amount for each participant — with or without yourself included,” it states in the box. “From there, you can also modify the contribution amount for the group as a whole.” Your request will be sent and accessible in your group chat thread after you have entered a personalized message and confirmed your Facebook Pay details.
This is not Messenger’s first attempt to facilitate monetary exchanges: Since 2015, it has made it possible for users in the United States to send money to one another using the platform, and in June, it introduced support for QR codes and payments links using Facebook Pay. Using the app to request money is made much simpler and more convenient with Split Payments.
