You might have an Apple Music subscription but not an Apple HomePod or an Apple TV. This limits your listening options around the house because Apple Music requires you to turn on your iPhone, iPad, Android device, or computer. There is, however, an alternative, at least if you own the appropriate Amazon device.
Amazon Echo and Amazon Fire TV devices now support Apple Music. To utilize Apple Music with your Amazon device, you must first set up the Alexa app on your device. You may tell your device to play whatever music you want once you’ve linked Apple Music to Alexa.
All Echo devices, including the basic Echo, Echo Plus, Echo Dot, and Echo Show, support Apple Music. Apple Music is compatible with the Fire TV Stick, Fire TV Stick 4K, and Fire TV Cube ($99.99 at Amazon). It should be compatible with Fire TV Edition televisions as well. Here’s how to get Apple Music to play on either an Amazon device or a computer.
You can subscribe to Apple Music from your iOS or Android smartphone if you don’t already have one. Tap the For You icon at the bottom of the screen to open the Music app. Choose Your Plan by tapping the button. (On Android, press the Try it Now option.) Choose your subscription type—Individual, Family, or College Student—and then hit the Join Apple Music button.
Through iTunes, you can subscribe to Apple Music.
To subscribe via iTunes, go to the For You option at the top of the screen and select your desired plan. You may have disabled Apple Music if you don’t see the For You tab. In such scenario, on a Windows PC, go to the Edit menu, and on a Mac, go to the iTunes menu. Choose Preferences. Uncheck the box for Apple Music in the Disable section by clicking the Restrictions button. Now that you’ve clicked OK, you’re ready to subscribe.
Connect Apple Music with Alexa.
Let’s connect Apple Music to the Alexa app now. On your mobile device, open the Alexa app, touch the hamburger button (), and go to Settings > Music > Link New Service.
Select a Service
You’ll notice a list of other music-streaming services that can be attached to your Echo device on the Link Service screen. Apple Music can be accessed by tapping the symbol.
Turn on Apple Music.
Tap the Enable to Use button on the Apple Music page. After that, you’ll be prompted to sign in using your Apple ID and password.
Allow Alexa to use your computer.
After that, you must give Alexa permission to access your Apple Music account. Tap the Allow button on the Access Request screen. The next screen should confirm that Apple Music has been connected successfully. Don’t forget to tap Done.
Configure the Default Music Service
You will then be given the option of selecting a default music service. Select one of the services to which your device is connected by tapping Visit Music Settings. If you want Apple Music to be your default service, tap it on the Default Services screen. When you ask Alexa to play a song, artist, or album, she will immediately play it from Apple Music. When requesting a radio station, Alexa also lets you specify a default service.
If you don’t want Apple Music to be your preferred music service, simply say it to Alexa when you make a musical request. When you’re finished, press the back arrow. Return to the Music screen under Settings if you wish to change the default music settings. Select the service you want to use as the default in the Default Services setting.
Use an Amazon device to listen to Apple Music
The good news is that after you’ve linked Apple Music to your Alexa account, you may access the service on any of your connected devices. If you have more than one Alexa-enabled device, you won’t have to go through several setup procedures. You may now use your Echo or Fire TV to interact with Apple Music.
Voice Commands for Alexa
With Echo, you may simply speak your orders, but with Fire TV, you’ll need to utilize the Alexa Voice Remote. Ask Alexa to play the song, album, artist, or other thing you wish to hear by pressing the microphone symbol on the Alexa Voice Remote. You can also utilize Alexa directly from the app.
You may now listen to Apple Music with Alexa. Request single tracks, complete albums, certain performers, or even a specific radio station. Listed below are a few examples:
- Play jazz on Apple Music, Alexa.
- Play Rubber Soul by the Beatles on Apple Music, Alexa.
- Play the Star Wars music from Apple Music, Alexa.
- Play Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 on Apple Music, Alexa.
- Play ‘Who’s on First’ by Abbott and Costello from Apple Music, Alexa.
- Play Beats 1 from Apple Music, Alexa.
- Play the Pure Pop station on Apple Music, Alexa.
- Play the Spa station from Apple Music, Alexa.
- Play Bloomberg Radio from Apple Music, Alexa.”
You can control Apple Music using the Alexa Voice Remote by using voice instructions or tapping physical buttons. You may say “Pause,” “Play,” “Next song,” “Previous song,” and “Stop music” by holding down the microphone icon. Playback can also be controlled by pressing the buttons on the remote.
If you have Apple Music selected as your default music service, you can skip saying “Apple Music” for each request. You don’t have to say “Alexa” while communicating with a Fire TV device because you click a button on the Alexa Voice Remote.
