Those who have reserved a Tesla Model X and are waiting for it can pass the time by playing with a new car customization dashboard. According to Bloomberg, Signature reservation holders were able to start choosing colors, wheel sizes, and whether or not they wanted to spend an extra $10,000 on the Ludicrous Speed Upgrade last night.
In an emailed reply, a Tesla spokesman said, “We’re now inviting Model X Signature reservation holders to configure their car.”
In early 2012, Tesla showed a prototype of the Model X, the company’s third battery-powered vehicle, a crossover with “falcon wing” rear doors, three rows of seats, and plenty of storage. The ModelF40 X is described as a cross between an SUV and a minivan.
To reserve online, you must submit a $5,000 deposit. Those who have already placed an order should receive it this year, but new bookings will be accepted in early 2016. The Signature series’ base price, before a federal tax credit and state or municipal incentives, is $132,000 for the limited-edition model.
The Model X Signature edition, according to Bloomberg, has a 90 kilowatt-hour battery and a range of 240 miles per charge, and it is compatible with Tesla’s growing public Supercharger network.
It didn’t take long for people to put their money down for the CUV: in just one day, Tesla received $40 million in reservations for the crossover. Meanwhile, a current deal allows you to earn up to $10,000 simply by recommending friends to the electric vehicle manufacturer.
Early bird buyers have been patiently waiting for their new car, which was originally scheduled to arrive in the second quarter of 2015 but was then pushed back to the third quarter as Tesla added more testing time “to achieve the best Model X possible,” according to a statement released in November by the company.
