With the debut of Explore, an in-app center of exclusive digital activities, Tinder continues to blur the line between dating platform and social network.
Explore, according to Tinder, is “the biggest addition to Tinder since the introduction of the original Swipe feature,” allowing members to browse profiles based on their interests and participate in online events such as Hot Takes, Vibes, and Swipe Night. Members in all major English-speaking nations can use the function now, and it will be available internationally by mid-October.
“In the post-COVID world, a new generation of daters is demanding more from us: more opportunities to have fun and communicate with others online, as well as more control over who they meet on Tinder,” said firm CEO Jim Lanzone in a statement. “Today’s launch of Explore is a significant step toward providing our members with a richer, multi-dimensional, interactive experience that broadens the scope of Tinder as a platform.”
From humanitarian causes and entrepreneurs to thrill seekers and binge watchers, Explore aims to present prospective matches for every mood and activity. Users can also select to browse solely photo-verified profiles through a dedicated place in Explore for the first time. Real-time posed photos will be verified for authenticity using AI, and if they are, a blue checkmark will appear on a profile.
Tinder‘s strategy is evolving to include more social encounters, giving its largely Gen Z user base new options to meet people. Choose-your-own-adventure-esque Swipe Night, for example, drew over 20 million people in 2019 and resulted in a claimed 26 percent increase in matches. Explore is now the new home for digital events, such as weekly Vibes sharing sessions, nightly Hot Takes conversations, and the next Swipe Night installment, which will take place in November.
