Android 12 is one of the most significant changes to the operating system in years, featuring a redesigned UI and some cool color-shifting features. While the system was Material You-ready right out of the box, some of Google’s thousands of apps have been slow to come up. Some apps, like as Google Maps, have yet to experience dynamic theming at all, while others, such as the Play Store, have just received minimal support – just enough to get by. Chrome is another example of work-in-progress theming, and while many UI elements stubbornly stick to their boring defaults, the new Chrome 100 Beta adds a few pleasant bursts of color.
With Chrome 100 Beta, colors inspired by your phone’s wallpaper have begun to seep into the top bar’s three-dot overflow menu and the animated page-reload symbol.
We’ve also noticed these colors in the app’s settings screens, but you might not notice them immediately away if you’ve only recently installed the browser – Google appears to be switching this flag from the server side, so try reloading the app a few times if you don’t see anything.
While it’s still a bit of a tease, it’s a step forward in the direction of full-fledged dynamic theming in Chrome. If you want to try the Beta channel release, which has already been updated, you may do so by downloading it from the Play Store widget below.
